ugrades to 175 horse power

hey guys, my summer goal is to get my 99 Cav Z24 to 175 horses at the engine ... i have a few idea's to get me started, so here they are... if you know how many horses any individual upgrade will give me, id love to hear... or if you think anything is useless or know of something better lets hear it...

these are my idea's so far

AEM cold air with K&N air filter
70mm Throttle Body
Cat Back System
Headers
ECU
High Conduction Wires & Plugs

Was thinkin Cams and Pistons ... but that might be a little too much $$ for me.

Any idea's are appreciated ... keep in mind im just a student so no turbo charging, or such that wont fit my budget.

peace

Radek

Re: ugrades to 175 horse power

the only way in my opinion to get any real power out of an engine is to start with the actual engine itself. the bolt on junk comes later. start with the pistons/cam i don't know whats available for your engine it's a 2.2 right. i'd put bigger pistons in to raise the compression a little just remember if you go crazy with the compression it won't run on regular pump gas. as for the cam if you get one thats too big it will idle like crap and loose low end torque but add lots to the top end. reworking(porting) the heads is another good way to free up some power. a good flowing exhaust is a must get rid of the pea shooter and get something decent. the K&N will help too as well as the bigger throttle body. after all this make sure you get the right chip for your set up don't just throw any high performance chip in it needs to be matched to what your running. performance coil packs/plugs/wires are a good idea once all this is done. just remember that the extra power has to go somewhere upgrading the torque convertor to match the cam will make a huge difference as well as a shift kit. upgrade the motor mounts/ suspension and cv axles as well. i havn't had much experience building up fwd cars but have done up lots of rwd chevys. If you just bolt on the stuff you listed above it will hardly make any difference.

AEM cold air with K&N air filter - www.induction-dynamics.com instead

70mm Throttle Body- to big, go with the one from RSM www.rsmracing.com , or even one from an older quad4 they are 56mm compared to 52mm-54mm cant remember right now

Cat Back System- if you want to make the power go with a header back setup

Headers-this is the reason you might as well go with a header back setup

ECU- dont know anyone who does this for the LD9, dont do those jet chip shit, all that stuff is trash

High Conduction Wires & Plugs- LD9 doesnt have wires, its has IDI, but you could always replace the plugs (maybe 2hp out of it)

you can also go with the Seceret Cam swap, get a intake came from a 95 2.3 quad4 and a exhuast cam from a 91-94 LD2 (LO quad 4)

also you could do an HO manifold swap too.

check out www.quad4forums.com and sign up then go to there FAG has alot of good info there for mods.

Re: ugrades to 175 horse power

70mm throttle body is way to big, for your compression dont go larger than 11:1 pistons. Definitely port and polish and the cam is a waste unless you want big power. Always look to trim weight of the car. Its the cheapest way to go faster.
