Your frist question. In 94 the base and SL both are DOHC, but only the SL has ECS.

Your second question. What you said is double clutching is not. Ive had lots of people tell me double clutching is exactly waht you just described, so dont feel bad. Double clutching is not bad fro your tranny or clutch, its actually very good for them. However, what you described is bad for the tranny/clutch. Double cluching:
1. press in clutch
2. take out of gear
3. let off clutch
4. rev match to the gear you are going to shift into
5. depress clutch
6. shift into gear
7. let off clutch
There will be no strain on your syncros, and your car should not take off or slow down when you let off the clutch. If it does you are doing it incorrectly.

Re: quick question....

double clutching is applicable when you are downshifting, and it is good 4 all cars (if you care about your tranny). Basically, when you downshift, notice your RPMs shoot up immediately and your car lurches forward. That is because.. actually, I don't want to write a book...here is a link that explains it all:
http://www.driversedge.com/dblcltch.htm

basically, once you practice for awhile, it is second nature and doesn't take anytime at all, and it will definantly keep your tranny running alot longer.

Re: quick question....

I believe ECS stands for electronic controlled suspension, basically, on most vr4s ( i know it's not on the 96s) there are two suspension modes. Touring is the normal mode that comes on when the car is on, basically like normal driving. And then there is a button that you can toggle to switch to the other mode, Sport. Sport mode is tighter suspension for faster speeds and such.

Whats up Che, its Brett, Sara's friend. I met up with you a few weeks ago at the car show. Your car is sweet looking, as for your double clutching question that is the racing definition. Some people use that term when they are talking about pushing the clutch back in right before your about to stall but what your talking about yes, say your going 80 mph in 5th gear, shift to neutral and hold clutch, rev to 5000 RPM and shift to 3rd gear you will have a nice speed increase since 3rd gear is known as our seperation gear since its the one we usually beat people with.
