Question 94 Taurus Temp Fluctuating

Hi Guys,

New to the message board, great board by the way. I have a 94 Taurus GL with the 3.0 Auto. I just replaced the radiator due to a crack in the plastic tanks. Anyway, I will be going down the road and the temp will be in the middle, normal. Then it seems like the thermostat opens and the temp drops way down to about a quarter of the way. Bad Thermostat? Temp should not fluctuate like that I don't believe. Thanks for the help.

thermostat?

Yes - your thermostat is the place to start. They are relatively cheap and easy to replace. I am guessing that your engine probably overheated due to your coolant leak. If it overheated, or just got slightly "warm" (210 - 225 degrees), then your thermostat was knocked out of calibration. Thermostats don't tolerate much abuse. Get em hot one time and they are toast.
