Datsun 510 4-door Track car...in progress and need help!

Here's an update on the Datsun...chassis and body/grille:

Plumbed the fuel lines, feed and return on the passenger side.
Added a brake master, the rear brake line going to the proportioning valve is almost done, just need to split the line and route along the rear control arms.
Front brake lines and clutch still missing.



Grille detail:
Dan has a HKS Super Mega Flow foam filter running from the intake through the inboard headlight. I tried to make a filter out of this foam material:

Should I put a mesh over the filter or not?? Let me know.

I'd go without, it looks rather oversized. Perhaps experiment with some black paint on the foam to give the impression of mesh? I would try something like thinly painting some black onto a flat, smooth surface and soflty setting the foam on the paint so just the surface pics up the paint... it might look like mesh? Worth a shot, I guess, you've got a hunk of it leftover.

You're building a replica of your buddy's car, right? Did you go to his garage and say, "Hey man, could you tip your car up on a side so I can do the chassis details right?" Man, I love the detail on this thing. But the wheel arches look pretty rough cut, what's with the dichotomy between smooth sleel detail and.. not? Anyway, not to take away from it... it's awesome. I love this build, and am rather impatient to see updates. Keep it up! and hurry up!! (But don't rush it... eh, do whatever you want....)

Wow you are realy going that extra mile. I must admit I am totally jelous of your ability to get great close up pics of the interior.
As for the mesh I must say it does look a little too big, but you can get realy tight mesh at a train hobby store. Kinda spendy though $6.00 US for a sheet 4" x 6".

Hey guys, thanks for the opinions on the mesh. I think I will go with what Willimo suggested and try to paint the filter mesh itself with some thin flat black.
My roadster is also at the shop where this 510 is, so I get to look at under a lift.
Tell me if there's another way, but I used a really ghetto method to cut out the wheel arches. I lit a candle and put my exacto blade there for 10seconds...then cut into the chassis. That left some pretty jagged edges!
I'll try and clean it up.

Almost there! Re-installed the shortened CV/axles and re-positioned the control arms. Added a "LSD" decal and drain/fill nuts on the diff cover. Plumbed brake lines from porportioning valve. The left brake line is done(single line!!) will do right one tomorrow.


Weathered suspension bits, and if you look closely you'll see that the brake line goes along the control arm and then becmomes flexible(black) rubber to the caliper



Just need to fab up a sway bar, add shocks and this beeach is DONE!
