Porsche on my bench.

My current build. This will be the 1982 Rothman's Porsche 956 Lemans winner ( the car with the wrap-around stripes),using Studio 27 decals and photo-etch. Certainly one of Porsche's finest racecars. Paint is Krylon white and Regal Blue. The blue is lighter, it never photographs well.

Re: Porsche on my bench.

Funny how those cars look so plain Jane like that, but when they are liveried they're awesome.

Nice. Is that the Tamiya kit? The engine cover fits so tight it looks like it could be a curbside.

Veyron I think it is just because we are used to seeing them with the full livery and sponsor logos. So without all that paraphernalia they look naked.

It's the Tamiya. The 956 has one of their better fitting rear decks with no extra tabs, pins etc. to hold in place.

Re: Porsche on my bench.

I have built the 1982 and the 1983 cars (look in my gallery). I tried to match the blue in the decals with the painted blue areas. As you can see in my gallery pic, the 1983 car (Tamiya decals) has a lighter blue than the 1982 car (Starter decals). I believe the 1982 car with the darker blue is more accurate. After a lot of looking around for the right blue, I used an alcohol-based (aqueous) Gunze blue. If I ever do another one, I'll be looking for the Krylon blue color. I used Future to clear coat the Gunze paint and it cracked after about a month. Keep us posted on this one!

I found out long ago you cannot use Future over Aqueous Acrylics like Tamiya. That's when I started using Krylon for solid colors and Duplicolor for metallics. This blue matches the Studio 27 decls very well and it airbrushes very nice over Krylon white. I still use Future and wax on my cars without any cracking problems.
