HELP! My '99 Tahoe is draining its battery. There is a noticable clicking sound when the engine is off, and the doors are open without the keys in. THe battery is dead, and it takes a jump to get it started again. Our mechanic says he checked everything and can't find anything wrong, other than something is draining the battery. Any ideas?
Thanks |

Try and find out where the clicking sound is coming from...that might be the source of your drain.
You can also remove the fuses one by one until the noise stops and then go from there.

According to the mechanic, all systems check out ok. I was told the clicking sound was being made by some component that is looking for a power supply and the the newer GM products will do this. Unfortunatley, they can't seem to find the power drain.

I have the exact same problem. I just bought the car so I took it back to the dealer I got it at. I will post a reply if they fix it and let you know what it is. Just curious--When this started happening on mine the inside lights would just come on while I am driving down the road. And the transmission started slipping from 1st to 2nd. Is any of this happening on yours also?

Re: 1999 Tahoe Electrical Problems
I have a 2003 that has similiar problems, without the clicking. The battery has drained 5 times in 3 months, anytime it is cold teh problem happens. It has ben to the dealer 3 times the first time they replaced the battery and checked all the charging systems without a problem. If the vehicle is not driven in a 24 to 36 hour period it will be dead. It is going in again today I will post the results when I get it back. I also ran into a person at the dealer with the same problem. A short exist somewhere and it seems to be a problem that has existed for a period of time.

Re: 1999 Tahoe Electrical Problems
Had the exact same problem with my 99 tahoe, dead battery, interior lights not going off or coming on after truck had sat for a while. Replaced battery, problem went away for only a month!! Everything electrical checked out; Alt, bat, starter all OK. Started over, ended up being a slightly loose ground cable from battery, where it attaches to the engine block. All the gremlins went away. Hope this helps.

Re: 1999 Tahoe Electrical Problems
Had a probelm with my 99 also. The interior light would not go out, had to push override button,so no interior lights at all. Ended up being the driverside door switch. Over time the spring wears out. Got part around $6. Replaced and no prob. since. Good luck!
