Look at it this way...Say you want to make about 225 whp; you can do it with a to4 and an internally stock KA24DE. The intake is going to be from 90-130 degrees F on a 77 degree day, depending on your intercooler and air flow acrooss your intercooler. Hotter gasses mean 'harder to surpress detonation'...Nitrous oxide comes out of the bottle at what? Like -30 degrees? Which do you think is worse for the engine?

One thing about NO2 that is REALLY (I mean actually by 'really') bad for your engine is the torque it generates. Say a turbo adds 50 hp and 50 lb-ft at very conservative, un-intercooled boost. Now a 50 shot of NO2: it adds 50 hp at 5600 rpm but it also adds 50 HP (I meant HP not lb-ft) at 2500 rpm. That equals an extra 105 lb-ft + the 125 or so that the engine has already. So maybe 230 lb-ft @ 2500 rpm isn't that bad for a stock KA but it wouldn't be laying down 225 whp either unless you have some wild cam to make big pulls in the top end. My point is that a stock KA with a shot of NO2 big enough to make it have 225 whp is going to have 340 net lb-ft at 2500 rpm IN 4TH GEAR! I bet that would be over 400 crank lb-ft; way more than the stock KA can handle. Just don't hit the button until 3500-4000, then the HP you add won't be so much TORQUE. Most NO2 kits say don't use it in the rpms < 3500 or so any way, or in high gears at low speed, or for more than 15 seconds or so. Just get some colder plugs and follow the afformentioned warnings. If you hear detonation, reduce the amout of spark advance a little.

Several of MY FRIENDS curently have nitrous and have had for several years on high milage Hondas and Mitsubishis. They didn't even tune the stuff; its just slapped on there. When they refill the bottle they buy 4 more stock plugs and thats all that has to be done. Even I ran nitrous on my old MR2 with 160K miles and had no problems, until a fuel leak burned the belts, hoses, and harness. The engine is fine though on a leak down test and the plugs had not been heat fowled from the NO2. When I feel like replacing the belts and hoses and running some wires around I'll be driving it again, still equipped with my Nitrous Express Stage 1 system. Good as ever.

In short, if you follow the directions instead of acting like Tim Taylor NO2 will give you many miles of trouble free power addition.

Re: gaining hp with simple mods on the ka24

I belive the common thought that nitrous is bad for your car is that to many people who want to go fast cheap but don't know about how to use it correctly, blow up there engine. I think that would account for a good percentage out there, cause nitrous can be had for so cheap and can make such a big performance boost that to many kids or speed freaks ( yes I am a speed freak hehe but not a stupid one hopefully ) just buy it and keep hitting that there button way to many times or for to long

any ways thats my 2 cents worth

the bob has wasted more peoples time
