97 Jimmy center stick removal (squeeky spring)?

Hi. I am trying to figure out how to remove the center top stick so I can grease the spring that is inside the side button that engages the transmission into the different D, 3, 2, 1, P, N gears?

This spring makes noise (vibration) when driving (hitting bumps) and it is really annoying. I know that there is a little metal tab that sticks out in front of the handle but I cannot seem to pull/push this to disconnect this top lever?
