Oatmeal fattening?

Hey, since last month I have recently found myself eating oatmeal every morning and occasionally I have it for lunch. I heat some 2% milk, and then boil the oats for a minute. My buddy and I were on a pretty heated discussion over how the carbs in oatmeal can make you gain weight, but if anything I think I've lost 5 pounds in the last month. Prior I was having one or two big chocolate chip mufins for breakfast. Who's right?

Re: Oatmeal fattening?

you are right. oatmeal is one of the best sources of carbs you can have. it is a complex carbohydrate. 2% milk is fine skim is best of course. it really depends on how you 'take your oatmeal'. i eat mine with milk, and thats it. if you add sugar, then you are in trouble.
-oatmeal can cause you to hold water. this is a good thing. although, bodybuilders stay away from these carbs about 6 weeks before a meet.

Re: Oatmeal fattening?

Oatmeal should lower your cholesterol too because it is a soluble fiber and that increases or decreases HDL or LDL, I don't know for sure. But how about that? I learned something in Biology!

Re: Oatmeal fattening?

Oatmeal is one of the foods most bodybuilders/fitness competitors suggest eating for breakfast. My nutritionist put it in my diet but I also had to add a couple of scoops of protein to it.
