My mistake, i meant to put that the GTRs that the use for D1 are RWD... yes, they are converted.
But you are correct, they are AWD from factory. :-D

ATESSA works like this (in a skyline gt-r, this is what one r33 gt-r owner told me)
1st gear: (from a stand still) hey i'm awd (from 5g rpms) wait wasn't i 4wd? better change back! 2nd gear: ok im awd till about halfway through the gear (assuming its stock flywheel, gear ratio, etc), then im rwd 3rd-5th: hey iom still rwd unless im coming out a corner or slipping. that's the basucs of atessa if it had a human personality.
