95 Escort Occasional Starting Problem
Occasionally when I turn the key in my 95 escort (automatic) there is no turnover of the starter, no click from the solenoid. The lights, fans, radio, etc., all work. I turn the key off then back on again and most time the engine turns over. Sometimes it takes several tries before the engine turns over.
Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks Dave |

I have a '95 Escort that just started to exhibit the same exact problem. Have you had any responses that might be helpful?
Sincerely, Will C. |

Re: 95 Escort Occasional Starting Problem
I have the same problem. just so you nkow, it wont be the starter, or the clutch switch(neutral switch, if you have a manual. most likely its the tumblers in the ignition itself where you put the key, or that whole thing is going bad, I have yet to fix this myself, since if you do, you'll then have one key to get in your car then another to start it, unless you want to spend the money and order one directly from ford, if you even can anymore.

Re: 95 Escort Occasional Starting Problem
Yup mine just started that too. (95 LX) I don't even need a key anymore. The ign. will turn with just about any thing that fits into it.

Re: Re: 95 Escort Occasional Starting Problem
So if it's the tumbler in the ignition, why does the electrical system turn on when I turn the key? What do you suggest?
