Re: Is it worth feeling bad about?

Yeah up until about a week ago I thought that having calculus hw to do was the worst problem one could have. I looked back on the past few years of my life and realized that if anything, the fact that calc hw is my only a problem is indicative of the quality of life I live.

Re: Is it worth feeling bad about?

I can't change a single thing about the wider world.Famines, floods and disasters will always happen, and any relief effort that I offer would be a drop in an ocean.

What I can do,however,is turn my energies into solving as many of my own issues as possible. It may not be much, but one less person with problems is better than nothing.

I've never thought of it that way. It gives me a whole different perspective.

Well anyway, for me...things happen for a reason. Bad things may happen to you now, but in return...it will bring good to you in the future. There is always a balance for everything. Your gf leaving you may be a "sign" that your not meant to be. I was left so many times in the past, but i dont regret those times because it lead me to the life I have right now...which by the way is a happy life so far. Certain sacrifices must be made in order to make the future to look forward to. You should consider yourself lucky that you can eat well, cloth well, sleep under a roof, and study for that matter. Be glad for these blessings that come to life because there are a lot of people in this world who are not as fortunate as you are.

Re: Is it worth feeling bad about?

The problems you have are still problems and you can't always just forget about them. But its good to realize how good you really have it and you should concentrate on solving your own problems. But if your problems are so minute that having them is a luxury to many, you should just shut up and stop complaining. For example the stupid shit I've seen on mtv's Rich Girls and that type of crap. That's just ridiculous.

I have a few problems that have gotten me to be somewhat depressed the last couple of months. They mainly involve girls or wanting more friends and what not. But now I realize that these problems compared to some of my friends' problems are not that bad. My friend's father has a blood condition that isn't exactly treatable, and she just found out about this. Another one of my friends has a grandfather that will only live for maybe a few more weeks, if that. And on top of that, her mom is threatening to send her to live with her father in new england and also to send her to finishing school. You can feel bad about yourself, but don't just sit around and not do anything about it. I'm starting to be more happy, or at least act like it. But its a start nonetheless.

We worry about such trivial things, when in reality we are all just nothing in the entire universe.

Re: Is it worth feeling bad about?

I'll try and put it into simple terms. Evrythingnis as we make it and if the problem presents itslf huge to us then that's what matters. Yes, some things are event hat stupid to complain about but none the less, for example, if a 1 month relationship meant that much to you and it ended ass compare to someone's 7 month, then ya know what, in the head it could be the same.

I don't know, it's been the latest comparison at school. I'm with Naki. Solve your own problems 'cause "if you can't help yourslf, how can you help others?" I don't believe in that but it does make you think.

Lightbulb The Problem of Evil

The Problem of Evil (why bad things happen to good people) is a perrennial head-scratcher. A few weekends ago I did two funerals on a Saturday, one right after the other, for two women, both of whom died of cancer at young ages and left several young children behind. Both families were understandably and appropriately saddened, but both families were overwhelmingly grateful for the lives that God had given and God had taken. I remember how one of the two ladies, in the months leading up to her going home to God, would whip off her hat and proudly display her bald head, saying "I think I look great...what do you think?" I think the answer (or the beginning of an answer) to the problem of evil is love. If good things and people come and go from our lives, then we are meant to inquire what these goods are supposed to accomplish while they are here. And the answer which confronts me on a daily basis is love. A husband of one of the two women knew that his bride was prone to cancer before he married her. They both knew beforehand what hardship the future might bring. Together, the two of them met their hardship head-on, and filled it with so much love that they could not see cancer as a curse. The bride would say "I don't ask why me...I ask why not me." Philosophy shipwrecks on the problem of evil. The answer lies in something transcendant, something divine.

Re: Is it worth feeling bad about?

I just think to myself that if God wants people to suffer (or doesn't care, I'm not sure which is worse) then all we can do is live our lives to the fullest, and try to not have the bad in life affect us. I just got two D's in AP Calculus (every day), but I realize that even taking the class I am doing well. I wish I had a girlfriend, but I'm not starving so it's all good.
