The first 240SX was the RPS13 240SX, which was the same as the 180SX in Japan. In the 180SX was a CA18DE motor, hence the '180.' Nissan decided, for whatever reason, not to use the CA motor in the U.S., so instead they used the KA24xx that was from the Nissan truck (and Pathfinder?) of the time. That's why it got called the 240SX here. Then, when the 180SX in Japan got the SR20DE and DET, along with the S13 Silvia and the S14, Nissan just kept making the KA motor to fit for the U.S. market.

I think I read somewhere that it's not the acutal engine out of the trucks but the head, pistons and a couple other things have been changed to make it more suitable for a car.

240 would win out with acceleration but has no top end as stated before. The Maxima has better top end. I'd have to say it would be faily even, tho it is a strange comparison.

its rear wheel drive, but maxima has wayyyyy more torque and would win, bad idea comparing same brand though =P my mistake

is true the top end of the 240 is poor but you sais in a drag not in a race so the top end doesnt mater
