94 integra: water in trunk

Hi all,

I have heard that leaks are common in all hondas and acuras, but I can't seem to find a comprehensive list of where exactly to look for the leaks. I'm getting water pooling up in the spare tire well. The carpet in the hatch is moldy and everything is soaked.

If anyone out there has successfully dealt with this, please let me know how you did it. I sealed up the tail light assemblies last fall, but the water is back.

Does anyone have a schematic or diagram of the underside of the car with the locations of the drain plugs marked?

Thanks,
Ren

dude, check for leaks around the rear window, sometimes there could be some perished rubber around it and its just getting through underneath. Also check the rubber seal around the tailgate to see that the glue hasnt come off and is just letting a bit of water around it.

The water is more than likely leaking in from the taillight again. also feel around the backseat carpet. If you have water in the trunk then ever time you stop the car, the water is shifting into the cabin.

ya that sucks, the same thing happened to me and i had to take everything out including my seats to dry. the underside of the back seats is just like a sponge so any water back there it will suck right up. try checking all the seals around the rear window and the hatch. try running a hose on your back window and move it around until you see a leak from the inside or on your lights if you think its leaking from there.

Thanks for the advice, guys.

I located the sunroof drain hose behind the side panel in the hatch section, and it seems to be working alright. There is water condensing on the inside of the body sheet metal back there tho. It looks like it is not the tail light assembly this time. (I didn't see any wet streak leading down from that)

I talked to a local mechanic, and he said it could be any number of places. The antenna housing (wrong side tho), rear window seal, hatch seal, sunroof drains, etc. I checked the rubber around the window and hatch and they also seem to be in good shape. No obvious cracks or rips.

Just so the next guy knows, last year I tried replacing the gaskets around the tail light assemblies, and it worked for, ahem, poo poo. Next I used waterproof silicone, which did work.

Doesn't it rain in Japan?!
