Aftermarket BOV on MazdaSpeed
Now this is a Question? Where do you find plugs to plug up the bypass valve and the other hole.haha in order to put a Blow off valve...I heard it can be done, and it shouldn't be done... Just wondering if the info I got was wrong.. Said it would mess up the Mass airflow sensor, because the bypass valve is like a blow off valve just that it kicks it out the air filter. The mass air flow sensor compensates for the air brought in and kicked out...
Maybe I'm completely confused...Need help Let me know what you did.. if you put one on....and which one did you put on... (hks..etc...) Thanx Q.

You have the right idea. The MAF sensor measures the air going into the intake, before the turbo. The PCM will then add the appropriate amount of fuel for that air. If you vent some of that air after it has been measured, then you get a rich condition due to the extra fuel. I have tried more than 5 different BOV setups on this car, some recirculating, and some venting. Basically, the setups that were recirculated produced massive amounts of compressor surge (gobbling noise while shifting), and the setups that were run open-vent produced some stalling and over-richness. What's the solution then??? Put both a BOV and the stock BPV on the car. That's right, 2 valves bud. It's the ultimate. No stalling, no surging, and it sounds incredible. What you need to do is leave the stock valve in place and recirculating, and get a BOV attatched near the throttle body that is open-vent. Here is a link to my how-to guide, refer to the top link on the first page for a how-to on attatching the BOV to the stock plastic piping. http://www.msprotege.com/vbb230/show...threadid=40956 Here are the sound clips of the progression: HKS recircualting, no stock valve: http://www.wpi.edu/~jck15243/MOV00495.MPG This is also very similar to the sound of the stock BPV. Newest setup: HKS open vent, with stock BPV recirculating: http://www.mazdamp3.com/members/505zoom/mov00533.mpg Hope this helps bud, let me know if I can help you at all, I have already helped about 10 people do this and everyone loves it. Some people are using turboXS valves, some people are using Greddy typeS, and some people are using the HKS SSQV. All of these work well, when used in conjunction with the stocker. Sounds simple, but man it was a lot of work/testing/thinking before I decided to put the second valve in. later -Rich |

Hey one question? Do you have to have a front mount IC for the directions you gave me? And What does having that front mount do for you car? I mean whats the difference between the side mounted, and the front... I guess the ability to keep it cooler but if that's it.. Is the stock smic alright too...or would you suggest a front.. And ha.. How much time did it take to put in? And about the cost? Just wondering...once again...
Feedback... your buddy, Q. |

Re: Aftermarket BOV on MazdaSpeed
Follow the link that is at the top of that guide for the additional instructions on attatching the BOV to the stock piping. The guy that did the other guide (Mach 3.5 Turbo) used mine for the basics, and then came up with a way to attatch the BOV to the stock pipes.
I can drive real hard for a extended amount of time, and the charge pipe from the IC----->TB stays cool. This allows me to run more consistantly when doing multiple runs. It is a good idea for those of us who are increasing the boost. The stock IC is from a Euro turbo-diesel protege, and isn't very efficient. It also has plastic endtanks that suck. If he is willing to spend almost a grand for one, then I reccomend it highly. It is the best mod I have done so far. The install took me about 8 hours by myself, with basic tools. With a rotozip and the gearwrenches that I now have, I could have shaved off about 3 hours I think. It cost me 900$ shipped, from their first batch. They are doing another group buy for 925$ right now. Retail on it is 1149$ though, so it is a good deal. Here is a link to their current GB, it has a bunch of pics too. You can also check out my cardomain page for some pics, there is a link to it at the bottom of my signature. http://www.msprotege.com/vbb230/show...threadid=47404 |
