ABS light

Recently, with the snow and ice we got in MD, I was driving home from work. On my way home the roads started getting worse but not quite covered enough for 4x4. So, I got to my drive-way and started to go up, to my dismay it was covered in black ice. So, I had to slide back down, went a little sideways, then put it in 4x4. I got kinda wedged between to trees on either side of my drive-way when sliding down. So, I got kinda stuck, so while in 4x4 now i started rocking the X back and forth to get it loose. I finally managed to get it loose after sliding around on the ice for a while. When I was shimmying it loose, the ABS light came on. I drove it to the top of my drive way and took it out of 4x4 and parked it in my garage. The next day, I got back in it and the light was still on, for about a minute of driving.

I am wondering if this is normal or if its something i should worry about?

Thanks, Jason

Re: ABS light

Per the service manual:
If one or more wheels spin on a rough or slippery road for 40 seconds or more, the ABS warning lamp will illuminate. This does not indicate a malfunction.

Also, if you manage to get some slush or other crud into the front wheel sensors it can make the light trip. The reluctor ring on the back of the wheel hub is not sealed from the elements.

Either I'm having a brain fart, or I don't recall noticing you were in Maryland. Whereabouts?

Brent

Brent,

I live in Harford County, Maryland. In the Bel Air/Baltimore area.
