Angry Celica ST problems. yeah it sucks

Yeah, i own a 92 celica ST. i have had sooooo much trouble trying to find parts and what not that can boost my cars performance. They dont even make any type of intake system for it. all they have for that car is a catback system. which kinda sucks. hell ive had to like home made short ram intake from a piece of exhaust pipe and a cold air filter. And i mean its kind of heart breaking that a car with so much potential doesnt have any parts made for it ya know. i was just wondering if anyone knows where i can get parts and such for it.

Honestly, to tell u the truth u r kind of going about this the wrong route. Personally the 4A-FE engine does not hv any reliable performance potential at all. I am going through the same thing with the 5SFE in my car, cause I am swapping out for a 3SGTE engine. But if I were you I would purcahse a 4AGE engine which is a performance N/A engine. If u want more power swap the 4AGZE(SUpercharged). Each of these engines come in different hp levels, but either would really turn your ST into a BEAST. With the power these engines make and mods done to them, your 2500lb ST would really be movin.

hmm

i really dont want to switch engines, i would like to, but i think the best thing to do is like just keep customizing parts. and i mean, i know how heavy my car is and im not very pleased with the weight, but right now with all the parts ive made myself, my car does run a 11.5 on the 8th... some how. i mean, so far, ive customized the header, and short ram, but everything else like the catback and plugs and wires i was able to buy. i really think that someone does have some parts out there that can fit. probably something from a mr2 or something. Ive also thought about dropping a matrix engine in the car, which is the 2.0 VVT. i actually raced a toyota matrix and i was stomped. by a stock matrix. I really want to change this, but i dont think that switching engines is going to help me as much as i want it to. i mean, i live in freaking knoxville, i dont know of anyone around here who actually gives a crap about anything outside of honda and acura. But personally i think that they should make stuff for my car. its hard enough now when go to the drag strip and i get whipped by everyone there because i have all this money but nothing to spend it on to boost the stock engines performance. People really underestimate the 1.6 SOHC but i think that it has the potential to be some what of a fast car and to exceed over 300 HP. but right now, there is nothing i can do for it. so ill just probably work on looks or something.

Honestly I understand what u r saying but the 4SFE engine in your car is not a performance engine. I know how it is to just want to stick with the engine already in the car, but in this case it's not a good idea if u want real hp. You can build a 4AFE up to like 200hp on all motor but thats so much money you might want to just swap. THe 4AFE is an economy engine and 300hp is way out of reach, unless so much money is spent its unbeliavable. the engines I told u about will be fine up to about 275-300hp, but the 4AFE won't stand a chance. You should really consider your decision, cause my 5SFE in my 90GTS will recieve no more performance parts at all. Its not worth it. Start saving for the swap, and hook up the interior, suspension, and paint.

just hopping in here, because I'm in the same boat as he is.

I have a 90 ST with the 1.6..engine is shot. Blew the headgasket out at 224k, fixed, blew it again (forgot one lousy bolt underneath the powersteering bracket, and also did something dumb with the headgasket I dont wanna remember) :P But anyways..
What cars, and what year cars, did the 4AGE come in? (assuming thats not a jap-spec special order). I live in SW Colorado, and the junkyards availiable to me are awesome, so I could probally score a good deal if i found one. Are there any specific resources online for a 4AFE-4AGE swap? Need the computer too? I have a 5-spd. And all in all..is it worth it? My car mechanically is sound, tires/clutch/suspension, she needs new/used fenders, hood, drivers door, trunk (these I could do myself)..hard life. But I love the car, and its loooong since paid for. Whats your opinion? My only other option is to junk it, sell the parts on ebay that are good (remachined head is the major piece) and wave goodbye to it when the junkyard guy comes.
