1st gen bov questions...

I am stuck. I can't decide whether I want to go with an aftermarket BOV or 1st gen. Sadly, I am shallow and "ricer" enough to crave the the sound of the aftermarket. But I'm also worried about them leaking. I have heard good and bad on all the aftermarket BOV's I've asked questons about. So what I am curious about is how much boost can a 1g BOV hold, and does it sound good.

Secondly, will the leak on the aftermarket be less if my uicp is flanged for that particular BOV? example: greddy uicp with type-s.

Also, does anyone know where I can get uicp that is flanged for the hks ssqv? or will I be fine just buying the flange for my uicp. (I will probably be getting greddy or rre)

The 1g BOV is a very good BOV. I've personally seen a 20g 1g run 11.3 on one, and I'm sure its done better. Thats not to say it doesnt leak though. Mine would open up in the mid teens during a pressure test, but it was too small a leak to be worth questioning. Most poeple run up to 25 psi on crushed 1g BOVs, and some poeple say that in a 25 psi pressure test it stays completely closed. So mine was most likely bad. I dont hesitate for a minute to recomend the 1g BOV for 90% of people out there

If the ricer in you takes over, dejon tools pipes are flanged for just about ever BOV out there. Prices are reasonable, though I havent checked in a loong time.

I checked out www.vfaq.com and read thier article about crushing the 1g BOV. They made it sound incredibly easy. Exactly how difficult is it? Just a warning, I"m the typical military man..... lots and lots of practice breaking shit!

you can get a 1g steel blow off valve but there are 2 that i know of that areeasy to get and a great bov the first one that id recomend is a hks super sequential (if that is how you spell it) and the Greddy Type-S which is a good one to but i have hear of some problems with it but nothing you probably will ever see. i do ot believe in taking a crushed 1g bov first of all when crushing it you just as well ilimenate it because it isnt going to blow off which back spins your turbo breefly whell think about this if you were spinnning in a housing whith just a bushing basicly for a baring unless you have up graded to a bearinged turbo, at about 23,000 rugh RPM then instantly switching directions in .0000001 of a second whuld you want to last long. (I WOULD'T) that is that your bov is there to help elliminate it lets the air out when between shifts what is why between shifts you hear a whoos or wistle.

and get a clue as to what you are talking about when it comes to specific parts. yes, compressor surge is a bad thing. yes, a 1g crushed BOV is a very fine BOV and is highly recomended by any who know even a little bit about DSM's. do your homework...

and as for the question:

IMHO, i would have gotten a crushed 1g for one reason: price vs performance. i ended up with the type-s because of the GReddy UICP. i like it a lot and after tons more work under the hood [bigger turbo and AEM EMS v.2] i really want a TiAl. like i said IMHO...
