Tools for brakes...

89 Olds 88. Both my front brakes are due for a change. I read the chilton manual and it talks about using a c-clamp to compress the piston enough to slide he caliper out of the rotor. Also using a torx driver to loosen the 2 mount bolts for the caliper.
Can anyone tell me what size c-clamp do i need and what size torx do i need for the bolts??

T-50 for the torx. The piston needs to go in to install the new pads. So if you look from the back of the caliper to the face of the inside pad (i guess something that will open to at least 4-5 inches) that is the size of the clamp you need. And remember pump the pedal with 1/2 strokes after the pads are installed until the pedal gets hard.

Got the torx and a 6" c-clamp. Hope it works.
Fukn sucks to be driving with a loud SCREEEEEEEE coming from the front brakes.

try braking and at the last minute you a thudududud..thats the front brakes digging into the rotors ...fun stuff

Chaned my right pads. Awsome! went to change my left side...found out one of my caliper mount bolts is stripped! .
Any ideas on how to remove a stipped bolt???

ok it's gonna be a major bitch i take it that youre trying to say that the hex head on the bolt that goes through the caliper is the one thats stripped .... before you start this go get urself a new bolt from ur local auto shop or dealer ..ur choice dealer is expensive but will have the parts ..anyways ... take some wd40 use with the straw and spray the bolt on the head make sure to get right down between the bottom of the head and the metal ...you shouldnt have to turn much since it's in a metal sleeve ... take something that can clamp on to it like a good pair of vicegrips clamp down on the sucker and gently turn ... i'm sure other people have other ideas this one worked for me so thats why i posted it ...

Take a screwdriver and pry the outside of the caliper over. You will expose more of the bolt head.Then get some Vise Grips. Another thing to try is get a pick and clean the Torx hole maybe if you get some dirt out the Torx bit will go in deeper.

I'm going to Miami on Wed. but when I get back I'll be trying the WD-40 solution. Hope it works.
It's just 1 bolt....how hard can that be .
