Suggestions to my 240
I'm a newb, and pleaze don't flame me for posting some search questions. I'm not sure if they can all be found in search, and I would like to have them answered in one thread, rather than skipping through all 92k pages. here it is, short and sweet
I have a 93 240sx, and I want to do an sr20 swap, I know the place to do it, it's a place in tampa that has the most recorded swaps done. The only mods I have done to it are a set of white gt sport 17' rims, with kuhmo rubber, 205 45's. What do you guys recommend for sr20 mods? I was thinking larger injectors, fuel pump, maybe a little internal engine work, and possibly a larger turbo. I will run into a bit of money real soon, and after I get the swap done, I want to look into other things. I live pretty close to tampa, about an hour south of it. I am hooked on drifting, and would like to know places to try it at. Maybe get a few suspension parts to boot. The current engine has 104k miles on it, and though it has plenty of spunk left, I like that idea of having a 30k engine with a bunch more punch. My father and I want to put a 33% more grab clutch in while the engine is redily accessable, since replacing the clutch in the old engine was a pain.... it's just too irresistable. Are there any drift events in florida? I would like my car to be a daily driver, as well as maybe occasional drifting. I was thinking about an s15 front conversion, but that seems like throwing money away. Flip up headlights aren't exactly my kind of style, but i like the lazy eyes idea that I see in drift clips. I would like a CF hood for the looks, but I fear that that would attract too many cops. Also some wider rear rims might be in order too. Any suggestions on body kits (fairly mild, don't want the extreme ricey look)? And what would a good paintjob cost? I don't want show stopping quality, but I want something that looks great. I heard about the rb swaps, the place were I want to get the sr swap does them also. I want to know about parts and performance of the skyline engine. http://www.xatracing.com/ is the place that does these swaps, and I'm pretty sure that the job will be done right. I don't want to risk doing it myself, because I might mess something up, but I won't have the knowledge to do it either. What do you suggest? I'm sorry ahead of time for my newb like appearance, but I have to learn about this great car somehow. Thanks so much, ag04 |

So nobody's going to be fucking original and tell him to get a Civic or call him a ricer/poser for wanting the S15 Front Conversion or an SR20? He wants opinions guys! Last time I remember, we're living in a free fucking part of the world.
/end SARCASM On a serious note, it looks like you've got your eyes set on an SR20 already which has more than enough aftermarket parts to keep you busy. You sure you want to beef up the engine before suspension when you're interested in drifting? Try checking out www.raretrick.com They've got all sorts of parts for SR and a variety of bodykits to choose from. You don't have to buy things from there as most of the stuff is a bit overpriced, but it's a good place to get an idea of what's out there for your car. About the popup headlights, if you don't want to have an S13/14/15 front-end done, try Eastbear, ABFlug, or Takakaira (website is down at the moment), all who have some -ok- alternatives to the popups. Personally, the popups have grown on me, and if you want the sleepy eyes, there are plenty of do-it-yourself write-ups (not here) on how to make a control unit for that. Try giving the popups some time. I did, and they grew on me. And with the CF-Hood, why are you worried about cops? Isn't Florida fine on engine swaps? Good paintjobs, I've been quoted around 1500 for factory look I guess. Maybe you can find cheaper. Good bodykits... the OEM for Kouki 180sx looks pretty good. J-Blood is one that I really have grown fond of too. If you get a kit, get JDM for sure so you get quality fiberglass. If you don't know anybody mechanically inclined, pay them and watch them as they work if they let you. You could also try looking around at the other boards or 240sx clubs for members that are around you who would more than likely be willing to help out a fellow enthusiast. |

Re: Suggestions to my 240
from everything I have read here and elswhere, if you are going to drift worry more about the suspension as that is where most of the wear and tear is going to take place. Just my two cents.

Re: Suggestions to my 240
Thank you guys so much for your helpful responses. This should keep me more than busy looking up some of the stuff that you guys mentioned. I just want to know if there are places that I can jump into drifting here in florida, because there aren't exactly posters everywhere saying there's a drift event at tampa or something.
I think I do like the lazy eyes thing, and am tetering on a front end conversion or not. I'm just thinking about: $2500 on performance or $2500 on looks I think I might go with the performance, but those s15 headlights look sharp! Thanks again for you guys' help with a newb, ag04 |

Just my suggestions:
If you're not going to drift go with the KA24DE... better engine (opinion) If you are going to drift really work on the suspension.. also just a piece of advise-you're going to wreck... don't freak out over the idea... everyone does when they drift it's part of the sport... lots of fun though so don't let that discourage you Don't split 50-50 on your budget. There's a saying I live by: You gotta go to the gym before you buy the underarmor. If you don't wanna be mocked like lots of people I've seen before me go AT LEAST 60-40 performance wise. Once again this is just my opinion and you have to do what makes you happy. If you really wanna go 50-50 don't let anyone tell you you're wrong. It's your car remember that. It has to be you. You're the owner and it is apart of you now. Peace -Andrew
