'95 240sx, OBD2 Question

Hello, I have about 140,000 on my beloved '95 240. I've been getting a Check Engine Light which comes up as a P0705 code when it is diagnosed. Apparently the desription of P0705 is: Transmission Range Input Failure PRNDL. My question is, I have a 5-speed manual, is this code relevant to my tranny or do the 5-speed manuals and the automatic version share a common circuit board that is used on both and I'm just getting a false code due to the age of the car? I've had the problem since July, I have it reset at Autozone and I'm having no problem driving the car at all. Has anyone else experienced this? My current unemployed status prevents me from taking it to a shop to be charged $500 for nothing, and unfortunately the guys at the Nissan dealer where not very forthcoming in their information. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First off Im pretty sure your car does not have OBDII... That started in 96. Second of all how are the auto zone guys "reseting" it. A good way to reset your computer is to unplug the battery and leave it for at least a half hour or even more. As far as the code goes Ill talk to my brother (ASC master tech) who has a scan-tool computer that tells him what the codes mean and I'll see if I cant get him to tell me whats up.

To reset the ecu you can't unplug the battery. You have to reset the ecu from the unit itself. You should also check the codes from there. Not sure where you got that code from? where did you check that code from? Also the ecu is located on the passenger side kick panel.

I believe 95's were a mixed batch of OBD1/2...

Im pretty sure unpluging the battery will reset it ... I have done this with a 95 240 that had an airbag light. And many other cars all the way from a Mustang Cobra (check engine light) to a BMW 318is (airbag light). All this does is reset the computer, not get rid of the problem ... This method determines if it is mearly a computer hicup or a real problem.

Just thought i'd mention that because i had a check engine light on as well. I fixed the problem which was an afm problem then unplugged the battery. It still wasn't reset. I checked the code ecu and then reset it. no more codes showed up. Problem fixed.
There is a turn knob on the 240's ecu to reset it and check codes.

Thanks for the replies guys. To answer a couple of questions, mine is a late model '95 and it is OBDII compliant. The Autozone guys hook up with their hand held diagnostic tool and retrieve the code and reset it that way. The P0705 code that comes up is my concern. The diagnostic tool says it is PRNDL Range Input Failure (which in my feeble mind corresponds to Park - Reverse - Neutrel - Drive - Low) relevant to an automatic tranny not my manual. Am I right or just plain looney?
