Best way to sell my running but beater 1987?
I've got a silver 87 with 180K, a badly leaking water pump, some rust here & there, a couple of dents & a fair number of dings (a veteran city car).
Since we're not enthusiasts we decided to cut our losses on maintaining the Max rather than do the pump, the timing belt & some exhaust work to keep it on the road. I guess I don't seriously expect to sell the car here, although that would be nice, but any advice on how to connect to someone local (NYC area) who would value it for parts or as a fixer upper would be appreciated. I thought that a newspaper ad would be useless for a car of this profile. I'd be happy with $500, please tell me if I'm way off base. thanks |

Check the value of the car on Kelly Blue Book or something ( http://www.kbb.com ) and see how much it's really worth.
You could always donate the car to the kidney foundation and write it off when you do your taxes, though i'm not sure if they do that in this area. I'm still relatively new to the NJ/NY area. |

When you're near the bottom of value, the Blue book gets blurry. Conditions from fair to dead are subjective. If it was in good shape it would be ~$1200, IIRC.
I've been told that many charities have an age limit on donations younger than this one, but I need to actually look. |

Re: Best way to sell my running but beater 1987?
When I lived back west, and i purchased my maxima, my father donated our 86 isuzu pick up (it was technically his) to the kidney foundation, I think. I'm not sure how it is out here, but it's always worth looking into.
