Just wondering if anyone out there has a '80-'82 Diesel Pick-up? Any one willing to share some stories about them? I used to own a black '82 King Cab with a sunroof and A/C until about 10 years ago after which I sold it to my dad who still owns it. It was slow but once it got going it kept up with everyone else and got great MPG's (35-40). I am curious how well have they held up and how many miles do you guys currently have. I rarely ever see any others on the road but many owners did remove the "Diesel" sticker off the tailgates so the only way sometimes to tell one of these was they usually had a dark left taillight from the diesel soot that would collect there or the dark black smoke coming from the tailpipe on acceleration.

Re: '80-'82 Diesel Pick-ups, anyone out there have one?
I've got 2 1980 regular cab table tops. Paid AU$300 and AU$800 for them over the last 12 months. One is a real sh*tbox, the other is in very near showroom condition. 300k and 250k kilometres.
I also have a spare sd22 engine which I'm about to put in a boat. All of them have the inline injector pump, and I have them running on waste vegetable oil instead of diesel. You won't find a better vehicle for running on this stuff. As you said, they're not fast, but they just keep going and going (...and going.) You should get another one. |
