Random Cylinder Misfire Question

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum so I'm not sure if anyone's ever asked this before. I've searched the archived material but can't find anything that covers my question. Recently the check engine light lit up on my 2000 AV6. I brought it into a garage to get it hooked up (it wasn't a Honda dealership so I didn't want to overwhelm them with questions) and tested to see what error codes would pop up. It seems error codes P0300, 0301 & 0302 are the problems listed. I found out that 0300 means Random Cylinder Misfire and 0301 & 0302 are 1st and 2nd cyclinder misfire. My question is, what could be causing this random cylinder misfire? The car feels like everything is running fine and the CEL came on while I was cruising at 100 km/h and accelerated to about 120 km/h. It's been really cold in Toronto lately so I'm not sure if the temperature has anything to do with it. I just wanted to find out more about the problem before I fix it, either myself or the garage. Misfiring of cylinders can be caused by bad gasoline. Gasoline with improper petrol:MTBE (or Ethanol) ration may cause premature explosions inside the cylinders. Knocking is very harmful so you shouldn't drive like that.

Thanks for the reply I spoke to several techs and a couple service guys at a two Honda dealerships and one of them did suggest it might've been bad gas. It has yet to happen again after I had it reset and a new tank of gas went in. Any idea if any damage was done on my engine?

If it was only one tank of gas and you didn't push the car to its limits I honestly do not think that it did any significant or even small damage. A few tankfulls, however, could potentially mess your engine up. I am not a pro, but theoretically it shouldn't have done any damage in such short term. And if it did, you'd certainly hear it since the damage would be with cylinder heads and other in the combustion chamber- the very process that makes it all work.
