50 more horsepower?

I've been schemeing for awhile now, (pratically ever since i got my car last may), on the mods I want to do to my 99 SL. My goal is to get up to 270 horsepower. I believe that pretty respectable. Do you think a new intake and a new exhaust system will get my there? Here are the details:

Intake: K&N FIPK
Exhaust: (Fireman exhaust)
-new hi flow cat
-new downpipe
-new muffler branching to both back ends of the car with 2.5 inch piping

I would like to upgrade the tranny also, but that doesn't concern with added HP. Let me know what you think, don't be shy

Re: 50 more horsepower?

You can do a TT conversion and have a nice 100HP gain.

Re: 50 more horsepower?

I'm not 100% sure but I would imagine the exhaust and intake would give you maybe 25HP.

I heard:

new cat: 10-15 hp
new downpipe: 15 hp
new cat back(Fireman Exhaust): 10 hp
with K&N FIPK: 5 Hp at most

I don't know if you can get 50hp into an SL without forced induction. The hp numbers for those replacement parts are to high. Unless you put a turbo(s) or rebore the engine, you probably won't get that much hp. I wouldn't worry about upgrading the tansmission either. Unless you add a couple hundred hp, it won't matter.

forced induction

forced induction is a turbo or supercharger, ie. something that forces more air into your engine

the engine realizes there is more oxygen going in, it injects more fuel, and you get better combustion = more hp
