I think they stopped making the prelude because it couldnt compete with the s2000 as honda's "sports car". Or thats at least what i thought... im probably wrong but oh well.

If there's no sales, why continue to produce it? I'm sure you know there is an increasingly greater demand for Accords and Civics compared to Preludes.

i never understood it either, but i really wish they would of ditched the accord coupe, and kept on the prelude name plate in it's place.

Keeping the name would never be the same with out the body style it produced.

Re: Re: Why did they stop making the Prelude?
As an ex Honda employee, I would say they stopped making it because the last years were not the best thing(crappy) they ever made. S2k, RSX, Accord cpe is what killed it from what I understand.

Re: Why did they stop making the Prelude?
makes no sense for honda to offer two affordable fwd sporty coupes like the rsx and prelude. they competed against each other. and since between the two, the prelude didn't sell as well, it was ditched.
why it didn't sell well? c'mon people it's common sense, way overpriced compared to its competitors. that's the bottom line. it's a great car in and of itself, but i've said it before you can get equal or better performance for much less. the advantages that the prelude has over its direct competition didn't substantiate its price tag. the prelude was expensive to build and ship. and it was a money pit, not profitable at all. so in good business sense, honda kissed it goodbye. |

Re: Why did they stop making the Prelude?
yea, but the integra and prelude competed against eachother for years, and the RSX is essentially an integra.
i heard a rumor that they cut funding for the prelude to work on the civic-hybrid project. it's a sad thing to see honda's technology test mule be replaced by a family car.

Re: Why did they stop making the Prelude?
Well this always happens. Prelude and Supra. Now people want the car. But now then.

Re: Why did they stop making the Prelude?
I guess the prelude being discontinued was something about bang for the buck. People were jumping into integras way more because it was more affordable and the performance was decent for that price. Although it does not top a prelude's performance (excl. type r) it does not outweight the heavy price tag on a lude. Truly sad to see such a great car come to it end. People who have it, love it. People who dont....can hate all they want
