Pulley-Like Noise ??

I have a 2003 GMC Yukon 4WD with the 5.3 V-8. I have noticed a pulley-like squeal when the vehicle is slowing down. It is most noticeable when stopping from around 20 to 30 mph. It disappears when you accelerate. The noise is also sometimes present at idle.

Of course, the dealer can hear the noise. They checked the belts and pulleys and deemed everything OK. I checked www.alldata.com for TSBs and did not find any specific to the noise I am experiencing.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Re: Pulley-Like Noise ??

I have found that replacing the belt, removing the paint from the smooth pulleys and checking the alignmet of the pulleys will usually take care of a belt noise at idle.

Could the other noise you are hearing be a brake squeal?

Unhappy

I have a new 2003 GMC Sierra 4wd with the 5.3 V-8 engine and it is making a similar noise. It sounds like a bunch of crickets to me. It makes the noise when idleing and when decelerating, but does not appear to make the noise when i push the accelerator. I am taking my car to the dealer this week to have it checked. Very annoying sound.

i have a 2002 gmc yukon and my car did the same type of noise that i thought was coming from the engine but after doing some searching i found out that it was the suspension bushings that were sqeeking so i took it back to the dealer and they told me it was common for gmc's to do this and they replaced them for me at no charge. hope this helps

Long time visitor, first time posting.
I have a Yukon 2001 with a 4.8 V-8 engine. My situation involves the feeling of movement and hearing of sounds coming from the suspension, I think. It feels like if the torsion bar is loose or something like that. I've gotten down beneath the car and checked, but everything seems to be normal. Everything is tighten and in place.
What do you think causes this.
Thanks.
Any comments are fully appreciated.

Do you feel this through the steering wheel?
If you do, it is a common problem, but can be fixed. Here is the bulletin number.
Clunking Noise Under Hood and Can Be Felt in the Steering Wheel (Lubricate Intermediate Steering Shaft Assembly) #00-02-35-003C - (10/20/2003)
If you truck is under 3 years and has less than 36000 miles, it is covered under the GM bumper to bumper warranty and will be done no charge to you.

GMMerlin,
Indeed, it is felt through the steering wheel. I will take my vehicle next week to have it repaired. By the way, is this also true for Tahoes? My coworker has one and he says that he experiences the same thing.
Thanks a lot for you information. I really appreciate it.

PS: I visited the GMC website trying to find this information but could not find it; or what it the owner's manual where you got the info from?

Let me know what your dealer says. It sounds like we have exactly the same problem.

To me - it sounds like a pulley. I have done a bit of research on the net and found another person with the same problem. His dealer diagnosed the noise as coming from the fuel rails - and that it was within accepted levels of noise.

It ended up being the PCV valve. The whole was too small or something. I think there may even be a tech bulletin on this. Just get your dealer or you to squeeze on the hose going to the PCV valve and see if this alters the noise. If so, replace the PCV valve. Good Luck.

GMMerlin,
I have this problem (and it has been driving me nuts) but would like to fix it myself. Is it possible to get the bulletin from GM? I have the Factory Service Manuals but have not had time to look at them for this problem. I assume that I can just remove the intermediate shaft and reinstall with a little grease.

Appreciate any help on this. I have a 2000 Yukon. 4x4 with the 5.3L.
