'85 325e: TPS vs Idle control valve?

Hi,
I have narrowed my problem down to the Throttle Position Sensor and the Idle control valve. Does anybody know exactly what each of these do? Thanx!

Yep sure do

The TPS is set to send a closed signal to the ECU and the ICU when throttle is closed.

IAV is set to actuate to keep the idle at a set RPM.

Do you know Sam?

But if the issue is a high looping idle pay attention when Sam writes about a penny with a 1/4 inch hole drilled in it.

Later,
