Finished: Tamiya Rx-7 R1

Here are the completed pics. I just glued on the rear lights before. I'm not gonna badge it because I thought they don't look very realistic (photo-etch would have been cool). I really like how this car turned out! Went from an orange into a semi-shiny orange

anyway, enough talk, here are the pics!

comments appreciated!

Looking nice and clean, looks like a bit of weird camber in the back, but i have no room to talk, i have a hard enough time trying to keep wheels connected

Nice build, looks great! Hmmm, maybe I need to build an RX7.... Does this one come only with a right hand drive dash?

Only comments are that the tailpipe wall looks a bit thick- but it you have new mufflers on the way, that may fix that!

Also, I think that Tamiya's chrome finish on wheels somehow never seems to look good. I like to spray the wheels with flat aluminum or the like, to give them an alloy look - but that's purely a matter of taste.

Sebastian. Great news! I sent off your mufflers today. Your gona get more than you expect. I've included: 4 mufflers, 3 round canister round tip, 1 round canister1 oval tip (just made a few of them last night, I have mocked one up on an FC, looks pretty good) They will need some sanding in the exhaust tip (forgot to clean the tip up after I cut the tubing). I've also included a yellow top battery, some exhaust decals, Two plastic 1/18th scale exhaust tips, and some clear wire stuff for under hood treatments. Hope all of this will be useful for ya. BTW, thank antonio too, he sent me the tuner decals, in which I've cut your exhaust ones.

jesus man! I don't even know where to begin thanking you! You put so much effort into this stuff! Let me know if I can do anything for you!

MPWR: This kit comes with both RHD and LHD parts, including a more luxurious steering wheel (i used the sports).
The zorst looks so big because its actually made out of plastic straws. you know, anything but the stockers!
The chrome finish on these wheels doesn't look too bad. It actually gives it a nice finish together with the black car. I was gonna make them white first, but the chrome plating looks alright. I bought a can of TS-42 (light gun metal) and I'll be spraying the GT Four wheels with that. If I like the colour, I might spray future projects with it as well.

Thanks for the kind words!

One of my favourite cars if i wasnt drivin an MR2 this would be my weapon of choice, I always have a soft spot for 2 seater sports cars, Job well done!!! nice clean build.

Just one thing, did you use styrene tubes for your exhaust tip?? give K&S alunium tubing a go, most hobby shops or harware stores keep them it has thinner inside walls plus you can file and taper the edges as well, i used it on my EVO III Lancer.

Re: Finished: Tamiya Rx-7 R1

my hobby shops have stacks of aluminium tubing, but at $15 a metre im definately not gonna buy those now, considering I also have to buy a saw and an angle cutter... maybe once im more experienced :P
86_Sr5 is sending me some mufflers (god bless you man!), so those will do for the next few imports

Ooo, light gun metal finish wheels would look really slick on a black RX7- and they'd probably set off the brakes really well, too.

Gotta agree, a 'luxury' steering wheel would look silly in a two seater.

Saw is a baaad idea! Tubeing cutter is what you really want. 9/16'' tubeing and 1/4'' to fit inside the 9/16, and you'd have your basic muffler, I've still got to improve my building skills.
