1991 skylark

hi, i just got a 1991 skylark with 30,000 miles and i am new to cars. I want to get more involved in the car and i was wondering what you guys suggest i do or buy. My dad isnt a mechanic so theres no help there. lol i also want to get better performance out of it is there anything i can do right off the bat that isnt that expensive. I was thinking of having a 3800 turbochargered engine put in but i dont want to put that much into it yet. also is there a site that has good pix or what people have done to there skylarks etc. thx i really want to learn about cars and work on mine
