Re: PaintBrush or SPray Cans??

no ones paint job is bad enough for a recommendation to Maaco...
that is unless this kid goes through with the paint brush/spray can idea.

That's the whole point, isn't it? This kid's idea is SO BAD...that sending him to Maaco would be a favor. That's a sad statment, considering I wouldn't send my worst enemy there for a paint job....I hope someone knocks some sense into his head....or that his parents come to there senses and confiscate his car before he destorys the value of it with his exteremely horrible and awful idea....words alone can't describe how bad his idea is...and it's only a bit worse of an idea than someone going to maaco, lol.

Maaco's are inependently owned and operated, so he may get lucky and have one that uses quality paints and has someone that can spray, ok, ok I doubt it too.

independently owned...wow, that verifies my original idea: drugs are a problem.

Re: PaintBrush or SPray Cans??

Do you guys/gals have any tips on sanding down the car to be primered? I'm going to start sanding the car pretty soon. Should I sand off the clear coat then primer? The Si doesnt have a lot of blemishes, but the paint is kind of fading away and I'd like to freshen her up in Feb or Mar.

Re: Re: PaintBrush or SPray Cans??

wow...to be honest, guys spend lifetimes trying to perfect stuff like this. my 2 biggest pieces of advice are...#1 take your time, be thourough #2 you can NEVER sand too much and #3 you can NEVER sand too much.

dont start with too rough of paper...maybe 120 and then work down. you should be sanding, towards the end of your project, with like 1000 at least (dry) and then move on to something like 2000 (wet). i could make this post like 3 pages long full of tips, hints, secret codes, advice, whathaveya...but im not going to. and ive only done 1 car(but helped on about 4 others). if you have any really specific questions, please ask and i, and im sure others will be glad to help.

its good to see someone diy-ing this shit THE RIGHT WAY!!!
good luck, youve got a lot of work ahead of you

Re: PaintBrush or SPray Cans??

Should I sand the car ALL the way down to bare metal? The Si, right now has good paint on it w/ a few scratches here n' there. Another reason why I've decided to get her repainted is that, the pass. side door will be replaced, so instead of trying to match the door w/ the current paint job, I might as well repaint the whole car and make her look purty for the summer. So should I sand down the clear coat and then primer?
