loud hiss/whine when at first, then goes away when warm

I have a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo with 101,000 miles. There is a loud hiss or whine in the engine when I first start the car in the mornings. The sound goes diminishes as the engine warms up. The sound completely goes away once the engine is warm. I notice a decrease in acceleration performance and perhaps a hesitation in the transmission (no hard shifting) if I drive the car before the sound goes away. Any ideas? Thank you! Frank

start it with a/c off does it still make the noise I have had a few compressor clutch's do this

Frank, I've seen bad intake manifold gaskets on these engines hiss/hum/screech like that until the engine warms up. Might be something to look at. G/luck

Thanks for the reply. The same high hiss is present when I start the engine with the a/c in the off position. Actually, I don't think I've ever started the engine with the a/c on.

Thanks! I suppose I'll need to take the Rodeo in to the dealership (which I hate doing because of the outrageous cost) in the next couple of days. I'll mention the intake manifold gaskets. Thank you very much. Frank

Hi I just dropped my 98 rodeo off at the dealership service dept.
The intake manifold gasket is gone again,the second time in 2 years!!!I had the same trouble you were talking about but my truck stalled every time I went from drive to park.

How much do they charge for this job, and is it a problem in the 1997 3.2L V6.

I don,t know if it is the same problem with 97 3.2L,but the last time I had to pay $200.00. Its not bad but I think for it to happen again,almost 2 years to the day is crazy. I should be hearing from the dealer today with the price this time.
I am also going to call Isuzu Corporate and try to get them to pay the bill this time around. I know of other Isuzu owners who have had the same trouble with the 3.2L and that Izusu knows there is a problem with the gaskets but will not issue a recall to remedy the problem.
Maybe if enough Isuzu owners who have this problem call and complain,They might just do something about it!!
