S4 experts, can u handle the boost??
alright fellas... i'm hoping i get some serious car fanatics to read this and give me some answers... i was talkin to my bro about this lately and he was telling me how the major mods people do on 1.8T's and S4's are puttin u guys up to, and sometimes more than, 20 psi of boost... so i was hoping somebody could explain to me how the engine can handle such high levels of boost while cars like M3's and the like usually handle more like 10(give or take) for most... not tryin to bash or be biased in any way, i just thought i'd get some opinions from the guys who mod S4's first hand and how the reliability is affected as well.

Three fundamental elements govern turbo boost pressure: compression ratio, pistons and connecting rods. Turbo engines usually have the necessary equipment to handle high boost, where as naturally aspirated motors don't. Turbo M3's can't take high boost unless internal engine modifications are made. Otherwise, the crank will blow right out the bottom of the car;-)
