1996 240 was a rental car? Problems

Ok, I went and looked at the car I may be purchasing. I looks great. I checked the VIN on carfax and found out One thing I don;t really like. It was a rental car. Since rental cars really get romped on is there any problems with 240s that get romped on, as in tranny going out or so on. It only has 48000 miles on it but what are your guys personal thoughts? Please help me before i go and buy a lemon or someting.

people who own 240s beat them up anyways. with 48k miles, just as long as the frame is cool, the car is probably fine

Yeah, thats what I thought but since its the first 240 I'm acually looking to buy i want to make sure nothing goes screwy with them when they are drove hella hard. It is a auto so that is another thing because autos go out faster than manuals when they are drove hard. I am planning to convert to 5 speed so doesnt concern me to much.

Re: 1996 240 was a rental car? Problems

yea one thing i was not sure about my 240 purchase was it was a rental car for 27k miles in fort lauderdale. It then got sold to another person for some reason and he drove it for 92k miles until i decided to buy it. So far the car drives good, body frame is in great condition, no dents. It has been driven hard though so I had to replace the tension rods. But overall my mechanic said the engine had no leaks and was in good condition. My car does have some weird oddities though, there r a lot of dots on my car, little dits all over the seat, probably from ash burns or something. The cigarette lighter also popped and is not sealed well. And the handles that u pull up to make the seats go down and foward, well someone unscrewed and stole the handles on both seats, which is weird. I had em replaced though, and the seats aren't that bad, and so far I've been driving it for 3 months and the engine is still working fine. No probs with my car yet

autos dont go faster buddy... the only true upside to automatic is that there is no fuel cut off

Re: 1996 240 was a rental car? Problems

I would never buy a rental car with a manual tranny, a lot of ppl rent them and learn how to shift until they get good and start driving their car. What my sis did with the S2000, didn't want to fuck her up her tranny so he rented a stick-shift and beat the hell out of it. I learned on it too, that car stalled so many times I bet the battery is just about to go out.
