Smile plz help a 15yr n00b!!

hey guys i have a nice 98 rs. only mods are xenon headlights so far. i'm lookin at short ram intakes and cai's. any suggestions? a lotta stuff i see is for gsr and type-r ::jealous:: but anyway. will those fit mine? i dun wanna risk gettin a system and not being able to fit it. is there a difference between ls gs gsr etc? and another thing. i hear my 1.8DOHC (non vtec) is too small to handle any 3" pipes. is this true? again, i dun wanna make any mistakes. thanks for your time. plz help!!

No, they won't fit. Get an Ls, Gs, SE or Rs intake. Short Rams are cheaper and regardless of what you get, make sure you have a K&N filter. 3 inch what, intake piping or exhaust piping?

Re: plz help a 15yr n00b!!

3in exhaust piping is way too big for a stock NA motor and if you really want to know why got the the "Let's Get Technical" thread in the Honda/Acura forum and read the first post about backpressure.

About the Intake, I know that AEM makes a line of stuff for the b18b (the motor in your car as opposed to the b18c in the GSR and Type R) and their V2 makes it sound real nice. I wouldn't buy it from them though you can get a much better price from say www.lightningmotorsports.com.

yeah, i think it would sound like garbage. who in the F would put a 2.75" intake piping on roughly a 2.5" throttle? i believe that he would actually be losing power compared to him getting a 2.5" intake. his would create a flow inefficiency. hmmm...moron.

2.5 is best. if u have a turbo application, its suggested u get a bigger setup. other wise stick to 2.5. btw, cold air intakes are nice..............if u have water protection.

Re: plz help a 15yr n00b!!

to clarify...i mean 3" intake pipes. cuz those are the pipes that come with the intake kit. i was not referring to exhaust pipes, sorry for the confusion. so are 3" intake pipes too big for my 1.8 DOHC (non vtec?) i mean, it should be fine if that's what they come with in intake kits.....right? thanks again

Re: plz help a 15yr n00b!!

if you get intake pipes that are bigger than the throttle body diameter, then when the air goes in, its gonna slow down when it needs to get into the throttle body, thus loseing speed and creating drag. Drag = resistance. resistance = power loss at mid to high rpm. my suggestion to u is, get pipes the size of the throttle body. preferably powerder coated. poweder coating = lower heat. lower heat = more power.

Re: plz help a 15yr n00b!!

thanks cuba...how can i measure the throttle body? and you have an integ too...is it the same size engine? if so, what size did you use ? and to restate...3" pipes are the ones coming with the intake kit...meant for integ 94-01 RS/LS/GS...shouldn't that be a factor? thanks so much

Re: plz help a 15yr n00b!!

all integras come with a B18 1.8. you measure the throttle body, by its diameter.
