Re: Heater Core Removal

I just got finished replacing one over the weekend and I must say it was the worst one I've ever done.

The entire "black box" must be removed to access the heater core. There are two screws that are on the engine side of the firewall. To get to these, you'll need to remove the inner fender from the passenger side. Then you'll find 2 screws just behind the wheel. It helps to remove the wheel, but it's not necessary. Also there is one right beside the heater core pipes, but I'm sure you've already spotted that one.

GOOD LUCK!
Jeff

From what i remember it is a totally different ball game for 91-94. I think it should be alot easier then what we had to go through. In most cases on the 91-94 the core can be removed without taking out the dashboard.

They were very cleaver in hiding some of the bolts. The ones I had trouble with were behind the front right wheel and behind a black plastic cover that covered the evaporator for the ac.

I know it's not much help. I still have the gm shop manual on CD. if you would like I would be more then happy to mail you what it says for your model year.

after i fixed the heater core in the truck the flywheel cracked immediatly after. It had to go... I don't think i'll buy another chevy for a while.

Thanks Mike,that would be great!

Cash is tight this month.
