Fuel Door Problem

The fuel door on my '95 Grand Am won't latch properly anymore. I need to reach in and pull the catch out, then gently push the door shut to make it catch and stay shut. Oil on the catch doesn't help at all, the catch just doesn't seem to want to spring back out after I let go of the door release. Is there any type of easy fix, or do I need to replace the cable? How bad of a job is it to replace?

Re: Fuel Door Problem

Antielvis,

Did you ever fix your problem? I just started having the same problem.
I was told to try an remove the gromet that holds the cable in place located in the trunk and try to replace the spring. However I have not tried it yet.

I took it apart to look at, but where I think the spring is is in an area crimped into the cable. I guess I need to just go ahead and replace the cable, but I'm not looking forward to trying to route it through the car.
