2k engine sputtered and died

First I have to preface this by saying that I know absolutely nothing about cars. I have a 2k explorer with 36 k miles. Today when I attempted to start the car, it would start and then sputter and die. Next I tried starting the car and hitting the accelerator, which of course caused the engine to rev, but as soon as I took my foot off of the accelerator, the engine would just sputter and die. I waited about 30 minutes after that, and now its fine?! It runs perfectly? It was suggested to me that their may be/have been moisture in the tank/gas line. I just bought this car a couple of months ago, so I am pretty concerned. Any ideas, thoughts?

Engine Power Loss

Have a similar problem with my 02 Explorer Spt Trac. At 10,812 miles while trying to merge onto a freeway I couldn't get over 2000 RPM. It died on me several times attempting to get off the freeway. Towed it to FORD and on Monday was told by Ford mechanics that they couldn't find anything wrong. Monday morning it worked fine in drive, but couldn't get over 2000 RPM in neutral. Mechanics said it was the way the governor worked. Needless to say, my car is still in maintenance. I will pass on to my husband the I.A.C. motor comment.

I have a 2001 ford exp sport trac. Just had the same problem yesterday. The truck will start and as long as my foot is on the accelerator, it stays running. As soon as I left off, it dies! Tried taking it around the block to see if it needed to warm up but it died at every stop sign. Replaced fuel filter today, that changed nothing!!! If anyone as any suggestions or similar problems, PLEASE help!

Thanks
