New 2003 Tacoma Intake Suggestions

Hey you all,

I just bought a 2003 Tacoma six cyl Prerunner, big difference from my last ride (1993 honda prelude vtec). I am already researching upgrades for it. I want to start with an intake because it is the most practical move fom my budget at this time. Any suggestions/experiences would be greatly appreciated. Hope to hear from you people soon.

k&n fipk generation 2 is the way to go.

I would definately stick with a "cold air" type replacement. An open air element is compromised off road and actually may result in a power decrease in traffic and around town when airflow around the motor is limited. just put "cold air intake" and Toyota 3.4 in a web search and see what you get and go from there. I think will go with the Volant when the time comes. It looks like the best part out there. Should give a good boost and maintain off road ability.

I'm running a K&N FIPK Gen 2. I can now peel the tires from a standstill and notice significant increase in acceleration up to about 4500 RPM. I had expected a decrease in low end torque but have not felt anything detrimental. If you're not off-roading a lot and are probably using your new Taco like your old v-tec, the K&N will give you good on-road performance and make lots of noise to turn heads. If you drive like an old man, you won't hear it get much louder than stock.

The quickest and cheapest improvement would be to remove the airbox elbow that goes into the fender. Drive around for a while and let the computer adjust and presto! 3-7 hp more! Personally and many will agree, stay away from the K&N Fipk and most other cold air intake systems; it's not worth the money and you'll be asking for trouble/check engine lights. Do a google search and look up TTORA forums or Double Cabs of America and you will find a host of advice about making the best of your V6. I have a 02 TRD Double Cab with: Most of the TRD goodies: Supercharger, Cat back Exhaust, Thermostat, and airfilter. I drag race with my truck at the local drag strip and have been consistently running mid to high 14 sec 1/4 mile times.

I use FIPK and i love how it sounds, and i can feel more power, but best i upgrade i think is the exhaust, which was just 150$ for the muffler and the exhaust tip, i got about 15hp, it was the magnaflow exhaust, which i recommend for trucks, they sound just perfect.
