We have a 1994 Cutlass Surpreme SL v6 3.1
It idles almost fine. But as soon as we give it gas it stalls. It will start again, but same think happens. Already replaced the fuel filter. Any ideas, please help. Thanks |

Many things can cause a tip-in stall.
Does the SES light come on? What could be going on is the possibility of low fuel pressure. Do you have access to a fuel pressure gauge?

Fuel Pressure
Thanks for taking the time to write.
No accesss to a fuel pressure gauge, but If you suggest a part to change, I will buy it and have it installed. Car is now parked in driveway ![]() Thanks |

If you want to spend some cash, purchase or borrow a fuel pressure gauge that will screw on the shrader valve, a cheap multi meter and a test light. With those 3 tools you can diagnos just about anything. Low fuel pressure can cause the engine to stall because there isn't enough pressure to support any engine load above idle. A TPS can cause a stall if it goes open or shows a false reading while pressing down on the gas pedal. Numerous other sensors or wiring problems could cause you problem.

i had the same problem with a 3.1. the map sensor was loose. i reconnected it and everything was fine.
