After close to 129,000 miles, the tranny on my 4.0L '95 XLT needs some work judging by the smell, noises and odd engagement/disengagement pattern. Question: best to take it to the dealer where all work done previously has been satisfactory, or go for a specialty shop?

Tranny repair
Dealer will sell rebuilt one for 1,300 plus core and tax. And you get a 3yr / 36k warranty. I went with a rebuild 7 years ago, but this time I am replacing with a Ford because of the warranty. I think with labor the dealer is around $2,400. A bit higher than a rebuild shop, but the longer warranty is probably worth the difference.
