Hi everyone, this is my first post to the forum but I've been reading from it for awhile now and found it to be really helpful, but I'm having a problem with my sol now and I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I drive a 1993 del sol Si 1.6 SOHC VTEC d16z6 with little mods, just a cold air intake and a fireball exhaust, I always use mobil1 synthetic 10w30 motor oil and a fram X2 oil filter when I change my oil which is every 2000km or 1500 miles or so. Lately I've been finding it really hard to start up my car in the mornings, I turn the key to start, it'll keep turning over but won't fire up. It takes a few tries of this and holding the gas pedal to the floor for me to start the car up. but once it's running, it's great, no power loss or anything and if I shut it off it'll start up just fine, it's only when i leave the car overnight. I was talking to some ppl and they think that it's prbly the fuel filter. I wanted to know what all you guys think it might be??? any suggestions???
oh and btw I did try adding a STP fuel injector cleaner in with my gas and it didn't help at all. |

Re: Starting Problems
Dude...I know what your problem is...it's not the fuel filter...or any of that stuffs they've been telling you about...i had that problem on my isuzu too...on cold and wet mornings...it would have a hard time starting up...but once it's started...it's fine for the rest of the day....and then the next morning...same thing happens....it's your distributor cap!! i had to replace mine, and now everything starts out fine...you should take a look at the distributor cap before attempting to replace your fuel filter or ur spark plugs....i'm pretty confident that's it....

Awesome,
well I haven't done much yet, but I changed out my plugs for some Bosch platinum +4's and man what a diff it fired up right away. my old pplugs we're really bad had lots of corrosion on them, I'm suprised the car was actually able to fire at all. something so simple, I still intent to do all the rest, but I just discovered a cracked inner driver's side CV Joint so I need to take it into Honda to get fixed this weds... It's gonna cot me like $400-$500 I'm not looking forward to that expecially since I just spent $300 on a new oxygen sensor... |

Just a suggestion-
Instead of paying 400-500 for a professionally installed CV boot, goto pepboys and get a snap on. I'll warn you, they are a real pain in the ass to get on, but thier only like $30. Also, if you do, check them every single day after you drive for about a week to make sure you got it on right. As long as you do it right, they will work just as good as a stock boot. Just make sure that you count on 2-3 hours to get it on. You might want to pick up some nice cable ties as well. Don't use them to hold the boot on, just use them to hold the boot closed while you put the metal one one. Good luck |

Only #30, Nice,
too bad I already dropped my car off at Honda this morning to get it fixed... I didn't know there was an alternative to replacing the CV Boot... How does it work? do you still have to rip a part the underneath of the car to get to the axel? of does it work some other way? and the one thats cracked it the driver's side inner CV Boot. does it work with all of them??? just wanna know for next time, I don't wanna pay this much again if I can avoid it!!! Thanks!!! |
