It's a Ford, I think that's normal. Just kidding
You should change the wires, the distributor cap and rotor, the fuel injector could also be plugged so pour a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in her tank. Don't let the engine run misfiring because you could fowl up your O2 sensor and the expensive catalitic converter.

Thumbs down Misfire

I also had a 96 Windstar with the dreaded misfire crap, except mine was on cylinder 4. I spent literally thousands trying to get this fixed, the thing which seemed to be the most effective was when I had the upper intake gasket changed. This cured the rough running problem I had but failed to extingush the engine light for more then a day. In my opinion Ford is either covering up the problem or they are completely incompetent. They charged me $1500 to $2000 to fix it but to no joy. I finally took it to a small garage to get it e tested and they suggested the gasket change. I have since learned that if I had gone for the lower gasket at the same time,at an addition charge mind you, that it probably would have fixed it 100%. as of now , six months since the gasket change, the van runs great but with the engine light still on. Every time I take for service for one thing or another, I get the standard "you are showing a misfire in cylinder 4, should we do something about it?". I just say no and leave with a smile on my face. I can't say this will definitely fix your misfire problem but I can suggest you beware of what Ford suggests for you. Unless it is a recall you won't see me back at a Ford dealer for servics or to buy a product.

Have you done or had the van's computer reset? Chances are that code is stored into the van's continous memory, and will keep popping up unless reset.

Well the gasket theory is true.......most all of the cylinder misfire errors are from faulty intake o-rings and gaskets sucking too much air. The first thing everyone thinks it is, is ELECTRICAL......but it's usually not the case here. And as far as resetting the ecu, just unplug the negative battery cable from the battery for about 30 minutes usually does the job of resetting......

Thumbs up Re: cylinder 6 misfiring

[EGR SOLENOID] Mine was a cylinder #1 misfire. IT IS FIXED NOW, it was the EGR SOLENOID not the egr valve. The bad solenoid was allowing vaccum to go to the egr valve during idle and low speeds causing the van to run VERY rough, and a blinking check engine light. FIXED. If you think about it, all of my cylinders should have misfired, but they did not. That leads me to believe that I also have clogged egr ports on cylinders 2-6.
