aftermarket TRD
Good day,
I've been eyeing this site for a while, and everyone says that if you're going to do any off-roading to make sure you get the TRD package. Well as far as I can see the TRD packages only come with A/C, and Power locks and windows. Can you get the TRD package without these options. AND... If I was to buy a tacoma that wasn't the TRD package can I get the same package through all aftermarket parts? THanks any heal would be great... GM |

The TRD package, depending on your area, does include those things and more. Point is, the TRD package is a great deal which cannot be duplicated with aftermarket parts for the same money. You also have to consider your eventual resale. The TRD package is in high demand and fetches a primium in used car sales. You could not say the same about your hacked up late model Tacoma with parts the buyer may or may not want and no guarantee as to the quality of the install.

Thanks pal, I appreciate it. I was hoping to be able to find the TRD package without all the power accesories and A/C. I just want a low stock "sleeper" without all the frilly equiptment.

the main problem is the TRD package requires the SR5 package which has all the extra frills. Enjoy all those extra frills and get your money back at resale time. Toyota 4X4's are the most reliable vehicles on the road and add to that their capabilities both off road and on and then add the TRD package with the SWEETEST electric locker and now we know what car Jesus really would drive!

so then what you're saying is that, in order to get the TRD package, you have to have the SR5 package with the power group and A/C. If I was going to buy a tacoma and wanted the tRd, how would I go about getting it without power accesories?

You should be able to order it without the convenience group (pwr door locks, windows, cruise etc.) But you definately want the SR5 package so you have a tachometer and oil pressure gauges. Plus lots of other stuff like better seats, etc. If you pick up a sales brochure on the Tacoma and actually read all of the small print, you can figure out what it is possible to order. The problem you will have is this. If you actually order what you want to save a few bucks on options you do not want, then you are going to pay the dealer full retail for the truck. The ironic thing is that if you just do a locate in your area you will likely find what you want with all the options but now the dealer will be willing to deal. Bottom line is you will end up with a loaded truck for about the same price. If your dealer won't work with you, then fly into Colorado and drive one home! I have never been able to beat the deals on new Toyotas at Pedersen Toyota in Ft. Collins. My brother-in-law lives there and is good friends with the owner. I live in St. Louis, MO but have a house in Montrose, Colorado so it is convenient for me to buy in Ft. Collins. St. Louis dealers refuse to deal. They think they are doing me a favor taking $500 off the sticker!

I am getting a new DC TRD 4 wd tomorrow. I looked at every one available in Austin. I found that there is a 4wd tacoma dc that is not a TRD, but does come with an electic locker. It was a very basic model and the price was great.

Great price? how great?
You got the locker! Congrats! Now go buy two TRD stickers, slap 'em on the rear 1/4's and hit the trails! Your truck will go up in value $1k!
Find out what gear ratio you have, I am just curious. What size wheel and tires came on your truck. |

Re: aftermarket TRD
Well, we got a TRD after all I was just being a cheap skate. I will look first thing in the morning at the gearing on the Tacoma. Do the TRD come with different gears? I just sold a mild offroad jeep that I had for years, My wife had a toyota when I met her and we sold it because of high mileage. She talked me into looking at this truck and man have I been missing out! I drove it for the first time in the day light and then later in the evening. I like this truck a lot!

From a Jeep to a Toyota! You may feel woozy at first, but this effect will pass. Just keep driving past the fuel pumps and repair shops out into the woods and the desert. You will soon forget why you never dared to venture far beyond "Tow Truck Territory."
"I understand the Jeep thing, thats why I drive a Toyota!" |

Re: aftermarket TRD
Man, That was funny! You know, when you put it that way, I was always having to fix something on that jeep and always feeding it. I have already have been online looking for the lift kit.I think I am going with the revtech. All the armor, I will make. I have been missing a lot the past years. I was crawling underneath the DC last night looking at the suspension, bolt and weld points for armor. I got really interested in toyotas, when I seen a toyota truck in austin. I kind of laughed it off. It was big and had an exo skeleton. I owned a jeep at the time ( my mind was not free yet ). But ,when my wife told me she wanted the toyota, I started looking on line for aftermarket parts and found this website http://www.frankentaco.com/ . That truck is wicked! I have to go for now as my child is screaming for milk, By the way, I am a stay at home dad that dreams all day about doing wheeling.
