A classmate in my Philosophy class (We ALL love The Matrix in there.. makes sense ) holds the idea that Agent Smith is more important to the plot than just as the token "bad guy" trying to cause trouble for his own benefit. I find that there are interesting considerations with this idea. Like, somehow, Agent Smith's discovery of his ability to replicate himself could prove to be a suggestion that there exists a loophole in the Matrix for the humans to utilize. This may have something to do with (and I'm not sure if what I was seeing is correct) The lone survivor on the other bed at the VERY end of the movie, before it cuts out, is Neo- another version of him, a replicant. Like I said, my eyes may have decieved me, but was that Neo with a beard? Or was it that random guy who was going to stab him? Either way, it's conceivable that there is more to Agent Smith's newest incarnation then is let on.

Re: Matrix Reloaded on DVD!!

Confused

Definitely have to watch the movie again before trying to understand it. Hopefully the disappointment i felt after watching it in the cinema will disappear with the added enlightenment

OK, I found the answer to my question as to the identity of the other body across from Neo at the end of reloaded. I didn't catch it before, but the body belongs to "Bane"- the guy who tried to kill Neo with the knife in Zion, and who was (coincidentally?) caught before HE could get out of the Matrix (he'd handed the disk to the first guy, who made it out) Then the Agents caught him, and that's what ties in with the act of the Agent putting his ear to the phone- HE is called back into the "real world" in place of the character of Bane, where the Agent now inhabits the body.

BTW- There is an interesting debate going on over at the Matrix-Explained forums as to the validity of a summary of the plot for Revolutions that has been found, supposedly based off the actual script. A leak perhaps? Or just bunk.

That wasn't technically "Bane". That was Agent Smith inside him, which is another parallel that now exists between him and Neo, as they are now both in the "outside world".

Smith was the one that sabotaged the defense of Zion with the EMP pulse.

As for the plot "leaks", they are just basically little snippets here-and-there that people put together like a jig-saw puzzle.

I read the same kind of stuff for Matrix Reloaded, and the "leaks" weren't too accurate at all. I'd say take them with a grain of salt. Besides, if they were true, they'll just ruin your experience for M-Rev.

Yea, I just realized I was referring to Smith as an Agent still Well, that's what happens when you're trying to wrap your brain around this stuff

So, what is it, like 11 days left? Oh yeah

Re: Matrix Reloaded on DVD!!

if that part about merovingian being the old neo is true, how come he tells neo "I have survived your predicessors and i'll survive you"?

While it isn't written in stone that the Merovingian was "The One" in a previous version, it is still possible, even taking his statement about surviving the predicessors into account. For all we know, he could have been the first "One." After he found the key and opened the door, he took the expected choice of saving the Matrix. After which, he was maybe incorporated voluntarily as the "guardian" program for the key maker- the predicessors he refers to could have been whoever was "The One" in versions 2, 3, 4, and 5- each of which he survived, due to the scenario probably playing out close to the same way. This also makes sense as to where his henchmen came from (one of which is shot in the head by Persiphone, the other "runs off to tell her husband what she has done.") She makes it known that they were programs from an older version, ones that the Merovingian wanted to keep around because they were notoriously difficult to kill.

It's not so confusing after you've seen it 20+ times. Already bought my tickets for Revolutions, the wait is killing me!
