Question for those who use pin vises

Forgive me if I'm asking a newbie question, but what do you use to spin them??

Good old finger power, or Tamiya's "Handy Drill" or just a plain old big black and decker type drill? Thanks, guys.

I'm not fimiliar with the Tamiya drill that you mentioned, but for every other pin vise I've seen, including the one I have, it's your fingers that spin the drill.

I dont even know what a pin vise is. Anyone got a pic?

good ole finger power does it for me too.

Cause you don't need to make holes big as craters.

And a pin vise is basically a smallish pen sized thing where mini drill bits can be put in and tightened (don't have a pic)
Can advise everyone to buy some , they are a fabulous craft toy.

doh! Was @ Home Depot today i shoulda seen if they had any pin vises. They seem like they could come in handy (also should have gotten primer )

I don't think that you'd have any luck trying to find a pin vise at Home Depot-it's more of a hobby shop item.

I posted a link to Tower, and one of the pin vises I found there-if you are interested in buying one from them, go and do a search for 'pin vise'-you'll get a lot results, with the main difference being how many bits you get. HTH

Finger power. They're for such find drilling you shouldn't need anything else. But if I were to get a new pin vise, I'd be sure to get one with a top that turned, it wold save some wear on the palm of my hand.

Don't buy a cheap one, because it won't hold a drill bit straight down.

Tamiya has two of them, the black one wont hold "big" drills bits like 2mm and + but the white one does, in fact the white one comes with two heads that can manage all of the tamiya drills bits, but as it is heavier and bigger, it is more likely to break pretty small drills like 0.3 mm if you are not very carefull. Well I have broken drills bits with the black one also in a moment of stupidity so don't believe me much.

i have a sweet pin vise that has a spiral thread on it, you hold the bit against the plactic and the top, then push down on the central bit and as you push down it spins. very cool

I have 2 different ones, one is for 0.1mm - 1.5mm and the other is upto 3mm

I have one of the double-ended ones and with the handle removed from one end I can chuck the whole thing into a real drill. It's good for drilling many holes, like a brake disc, but you just have to run it real slow. Even doing 8 plug wires on a thick plastic engine is much more pleasant when it's chucked into a drill, as your fingers will get tired from twisting so many times.

I've also seen adapters to use the drill bits in a cordless screwdriver so you can have a very slow, very small drilling tool.
