Thumbs up C6 info straight from GM vice-pres

While attending the Corvette Birthday bash in Nashville this weekend, I was able to go to a panel discussion between the Corvette Chief engineer, the vice president of General Motors, the plant manager, and the marketing director. When questioned about the C6, the Chief engineer avoided answering, but then the GM VP chimed in...quotes: when asked about power: "I keep slipping Dave a little note during our meetings, I want to keep him focused. What's it say on that note Dave?"--says the VP "I don't know what you mean."--Chief Engineer "You know, the note with those numbers on it"--VP "Oh, do you mean the 1.1 Gs of lateral acceleration?"--Chief Engineer with a huge smile "No, the other one, the one that says 500 horsepower"--says the VP

Thats right, we can expect a C6 that can pull 1.1Gs on the skid pad and has in excess of 500hp. Sounds like a Viper/Ferrari/Lambo/Porsche/insert name here killer to me

Man your lucky you got to go to that, i bought tickets for the damn thing, and was gonna drive my newly accuired first Corvette (1984, Hey its a start) there.....but my Bro's wedding was the same weekend, so i was forced to go to that instead. He was kinda mad that i was putting the corvette before him in importance, but i mean c'mon it was a once in a life time experiance, and it was the corvette.... Some people just dont understand...... maybe it'll be around to celebrate 100 years. But 500 horse!!!! Holy shit, thats awesome!! I see a new snake charmer......

It wouldn't be the first 'Vette w/ 500hp (L88), and w/ the new magnetic dampening system, 1.1G's doesn't suprise me.

More importantly is probably, "How much will it weigh?" Will it gain weight like the Viper and become a little bit sluggish because of the extra weight.

Sometimes when automakers raise the power in a car they add weight which negates the added power they just upped.

Actually even the Z51 suspension is better then the new magnetic suspension with respect to cornering ability, plus it takes a ton more to do 1.1 G's than shocks. Like tires, sway bars, etc etc... And the highest ever rating of any corvette ever is 450HP. And that was using the old system. (yes I know the l88 was underrated, but show me some rwhp numbers of an l88 and then we can go from there.)

you are incorrect te highest hp rating of a corvette was a 1969 corvette stingray ZL-1 @ 585 hp. but that doesn't really count since there were only 2 made.

Damn!! I was looking for info and finally found this, any more info. They plan to change the exterior a little bit? I'm really in love with the style they have now, just hope they don't change it to fast.

Yeah. i see alot of cadillac influence there too.. but I dont think it will be that drastic of a change on the front end... GM never produces anything too closely resembling prototypes.. which is sometimes a bad thing.

I've heard a few things of the new C6, and ill have to admit, i'm really excited about it. However, what I heard may be slightly different than what im hearing here. I heard a 425hp engine, i'm still hearing the 1.1g skidpad (WOW). A body that weights less than the current Z06. I heard its suppost to be somwhere in the ballpark of 3075+/-. I also heard they are incorporating "variable-valve-timming" technology in it. Has anyone ever heard of Honda's famous VTEC. Well the VTEC is incorporated through their variable valve timming system which adds 40+ horsepower on some of their cars when it kicks in. Now put that on a V8 350 and hehe. I think that the engineers of the corvette are really starting to push the technology into their shortblock V8's like honda is putting into their 2.0 liter 4's. If Honda can get 240hp out of their 2 liter S2000, what will the future be for the Corvette? I also heard that the Vette was going to be using a cylinder shutoff system when its set at the lowest performance level. It shuts off 4 cylinders to allow for better gas milage. I tell you I'm really excited to see what the C6 can do. I'm not stating that these are fact, cause quite frankly, the car isn't even out yet, but I've heard these rumors from many prominent mag. companies including (motortrend, car driver, automobile, etc.)Seems that these mag. companies are megerly anticipating the new C6 as much as we are. I also heard the C6 Z06 (coming out a year after the C6), is going to be ballparking 500+ or so hp with a even more refined grip/handling/weight. Now if thats true, how many liters will the new viper need to beat that hehehehahah.
