swap opportunity
alright my friend just gave me a 1985 5.0 and it is 5speed totaly for $20 engine runs mint but the rear is totaled, i also have a 1983 3.8litre mustang vert with a mint body and its auto and have been told the V8 would drop right cause everything but the engine is the same as the 5.0. I figure i will swap then engine and manual tranny get full length headers and daul exhaust made. But i do not have the tools to do the swap, does anyone know how much it will cost for a shop to do the swap for me? Also if i buy a EFI and cobra mass air kit will it be basicly the same as the 90 engine once its put on? cause i might want to supercharge it somewere down the road.
All so i have a question about the light bar things, everywere i look it says 86-93 but will it fit on the 83 mustang? I have a fear of flipping so i would like some comfort in knowing i might survive with that thing on there.

Well for what its worth, that light bar wont act like a roll bar unless its welded on. its just for looks. as far as the swap goes, i doubt any regular shop would take it on. they dont want the worries and risk of customizing and having to run into problems of the sort. a speed shop is your only bet and it IS gonna cost you. How deep is you wallet?

Re: Re: Re: swap opportunity
What did the 85 motor come out of? If the motor is out of a Mustang it will be a H.O motor, if it came out of another Ford, chances are it might not be a H.O motor. The 85 H.O motor that came with a 5-speed was rated 210 hp at 4400 rpms, with 270 ft-lbs or torque.
The motor should go into your 83 no problem. You will just have to get new motor mounts, and maybe fuel lines. Also note that the suspension/brakes/rearend on the 83 is far different then those of the later years. Oh and a light bar is just for looks, and is not intended for any type of safety use. If you are worried about a roll over, then a roll bar would be your choice.
