Wheel Tire Options on 1976 Porsche 911

I tried to search with no results so here is teh question.

I recently bought a 1976 Porsche 911 that is wearing cookie cutters with bargain basement tires. I want to change the wheel/tire combination. I am looking to increase the wheel size and go with a set of low profile performance tires. What can I fit without modification? I like teh Fuchs look in a polished tire but will happily look at other styles. I would like to stay with something that fits teh period look of teh car.

I tried the tirerack website but it had no info om my car.

Any suggestions welcome?

Begin with writing down or putting on an Excel spreadsheet, the OEM wheel specs for your car. For a 1976 Porsche 911, the OEM wheel size is a 15 x 7 rim with a 215/60-15 tire. You can double check by looking at your owner's manual because I could be wrong on the tire size.
You can go with 16", 17", 18", or 19" rim. As the wheel size increases, you need to calculate the tire size so that the tire has relatively the same outer diameter or outer height.
With a 16" rim, you can go with a 225/50-16 or 245/45-16 tire.
Although the Fuchs rim matches the look for a '76 911, I think that any of the newer OEM 911 rims or aftermarket rims designed for a 911 (like DP motorsports) look okay also.
Surf the web, there are a lot of sites with info for the 911.
