Hesitating '95 Bird

I've got a 1995 Firebird with a 3.8Li/ 5 speed. It' got about 97,000 miles. It is hesistating under acceration at all speeds. There isn't any smell like a plugged converter. I have replaced the center coil pak (cylinders. 2 & 5) three times. Platnium plugs and wires were changed at 65,000 miles.
I also repaired the main harness problem (wires rubbing against stud on block next to firewall) that it had at about the same time. When I replaced the coil paks before I at least had an engine error code. I'm not recieving one at this time. Any help would be appreciated.

I bet you need a rebuilt tranny. Our 95 did the same thing, and it was great after the rebuild. It's because it's so worn that it's slipping under acceleration, and therefore not accelerating as fast with the pedal down...

The engine hesitates while in neutral and parked. If engine RPM is slowly raised, the hesitation is not as noticeable but is not practicle for driving.

My guess is a problem in the fuel delivery system. Possibly a plugged filter, injectors or faulty fuel pump.

Really bad spark plugs may also cause this.

I just replaced the fuel filter in May because I was smelling fumes from under the car. The filter was leaking from the inlet side. I still do smell gas when getting out of the car every once in a while but don't really see any leak. I'm not sure if its unburned fuel. The odor is usually pretty strong.

Well if you keep smelling gas is it possible there is a tiny leak in the hose? That would cause a lack in vacuum which might lead to hesitating.

(Pure speculation here).

If it was your tranny slipping it would be broken by now

The tranny went in my truck, I felt it start slipping and by the time I was 4 blocks to the tranny shop it was pretty much dead.

As well, I think only the clutch can slip in a standard and that would be smoking everywhere if it was slipping.

try this do a fluid change on everything run fI cleaner threw it and check your throttle pistioning sensor change fuel filters and ther maybe water in your gas tank but that should take care or it let me know what happens i have ran into this so many times a knock sensor coudl be at fault to

i am 99% sure it is your mass airflow sensor and/or dirty intake, my car does exactly the same, mine was quoted at $500 for fix of an 89 bird
